In Dungeons & Dragons chaotic plane of Limbo, dwell the slaads. Creatures bound only by the law that the weak must obey the strong or face annihilation. The weakest among them are the red slaads. Amassing in vast throngs throughout Limbo, their sharp claws can inject an egg into an unfortunate host’s body.
From the egg hatches a slaad tadpole that devours its way out, transforming into a blue or green slaad depending on the host’s magical abilities. Blue slaads are muscular brutes whose vicious claw blades carry chaos phage, a magical curse that transforms victims into red or green slaads based on their spellcasting abilities. Green slaads come into being when the propagation methods of red or blue slaads affect creatures capable of casting high level spells.
They possess surprising intelligence, wielding innate spellcasting and shape shifting abilities. They direct their lesser kins during invasions of humanoid communities. Gray slaads are transformed from green slaads by slaad lords. They act as living extensions of the will of their death slaad masters. They explore the planes in humanoid form on errands of doom, seeking humanoid communities to invade. A death slaad arises when a gray slaad eats a dead death slaad, or when a slaad lord infuses a gray slaad with a portion of their chaotic energy.
Death slaads orchestrate slaad forces of red and blue on deliberate invasions across planes, using survivors as incubators to propagate their chaotic race further.
Century old death slaads retreat into isolation, emerging as white slaads. Pale as snow, they devote to mastering increasingly lethal magical arts and abilities. White slaads who survive another century become black slaads. Visible only by their gleaming evil eyes, they are living voids whose power eclipses ancient dragons.
