Five famous wizards in Dungeons & Dragons. Number one, Szass Tam. The Lich Ruler of Thay. Szass Tam leads the Red Wizards as Zulkir of Necromancy. His power comes from centuries of undeath, during which he consolidated control over Thay, one of the most magically powerful nations in Faerûn. His influence extends across planes through trade networks and research, accumulating wealth while commanding vast undead armies. Number two, The Simbul. Born as Alassra Silverhand, The Simbul is one of the Seven Sisters and a Chosen of Mystra.
She rules Aglarond as the Witch Queen. She is one of the most powerful among the Chosen of Mystra, but is prone to lose control of her immense powers. The fits of wild magic during her uncontrolled rages can devastate entire battlefields, making her dangerous to both allies and enemies. Number three, Manshoon. As a founder of the Zhentarim, Manshoon built a criminal empire spanning the Sword Coast through cunning, organizational skills and arcane prowess.
His contingency plan of magically cloning dormant versions of himself as insurance against death, set off the infamous Manshoon Wars. Even after his apparent deaths, various versions of Manshoon continue to plague the Forgotten Realms. Number four, Mordenkainen. Mordenkainen founded the Circle of Eight, a group dedicated to maintaining the balance of power between good and evil. He travels the Multiverse extensively and is a prolific creator of spells, adding to his repertoire and contributing to the magical landscape of the Multiverse.
Many spells bear his name, including Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion and Mordenkainen’s Sword. Number five, Vajra Safahr. The current Blackstaff of Waterdeep, Vajra represents a new generation of wizards.
She is the youngest to hold the position of Blackstaff. She wields the Blackstaff, an artifact that contains the spirits of all previous Blackstaffs, giving her access to the vast wisdom of her predecessors. Vajra must prove herself worthy of the title of Blackstaff while dealing with multiple ancient personalities residing in her staff.
