Transcript

Six giants in Dungeons & Dragons, and their places in the Ordning. The Ordning is the caste structure that defines giant society. Each giant knows its precise place in this hierarchy. A giant’s rank in the Ordning is first determined by its type, then by its personal achievements in upholding the values of its type. At the bottom of the Ordning are Hill Giants, the least sophisticated type of giant. Hill Giants are brutish and dim-witted beings. They constantly seek food and eats almost anything, including other sentient creatures.

They value size, equating it with power. A tribe’s chief is usually the tallest and fattest Hill Giant that can still move about. Fifth in the Ordning are the Stone Giants. Stone Giants are reclusive, quiet and peaceful artists, living in secluded caves and underground realms. They value artistry and grace, mastering the craft of exquisite stonework, and honing their skill in stone hurling with stunning athleticism and poise. Fourth in the Ordning are the Frost Giants.

Frost Giants live in cold, mountainous regions, and organize raiding parties against other settlements. They embrace a warrior culture, valuing strength, battle prowess and the trophies of their conquests. Third in the Ordning are the Fire Giants. Fire Giants are master smiths and engineers who build massive fortresses near volcanic regions, often enslaving other races to work in their fortresses. They maintain strict military discipline and social hierarchy, valuing craftsmanship, especially in weapons and armor.

Second in the Ordning are the Cloud Giants. Cloud Giants live in magnificent castles on mountain peaks. Attuned to air magic, they can turn into mist and create clouds of billowing fog. They value wealth and extravagance, often gambling their treasures with each other to advance in the Ordning. At the summit of the Ordning are the Storm Giants. Storm Giants live in mountain peaks or deep oceans that are beyond most other creatures, reading and contemplating omens in isolation. Many possess the gift of prophecy, but rarely interfere in the affairs of smaller races.

However, they may reveal secrets to respectful beings that visit its remote domain. Above the Ordning and True Giants stand the Titans, ancient beings of immense power who preceded even the mighty Storm Giants. Below the True Giants in the Ordning are the Giant Kins, distant relatives of True Giants like Cyclops and Ettins.
